Concern at rubbish left in Forest Park on Good Friday

Dear Editor,

As a resident of Boyle, my husband & I really enjoy and appreciate our morning walks in Lough Key.  It’s a wonderful place and know we are very fortunate to be able to stretch our legs and maintain our sanity in such surroundings, come rain or shine, thankfully lately it has been sunshine, so even better.

However, as you can see from the above photo, Good Friday revellers have obviously been partying, which is wonderful and we like to think of folk enjoying themselves in their own way so long as this does not infringe upon others.  Lots of rubbish was left behind by the lake side, which, let’s face it, is an eyesore.  So, a very simple solution for the revellers would have been to either dump their rubbish in the close by bins provided OR to have taken it home with them. Simple. Thereby, this eyesore and eco problem need not have become an issue.

Perhaps we can appeal to other walkers to actually take a bag with them when they go on a walk and either a pair of gloves or a pick up stick and then pick up the rubbish along the way. If everybody does a little bit to help, then we can all continue to enjoy our surroundings.  I don’t understand this ‘let’s dump the rubbish, I can’t see it so it doesn’t matter’ mentality, so yes have fun folks but please be mindful of others, whether young or old, be super mindful of either your tomorrows’ world or that of the next generation.

We quite happily cleared away the debris,  we complain but also like to think that we can remedy such issues as we see them but in our elderly years, we are sad to see such things happening. However, we do love and appreciate all the hard work that has been done within the Park for the benefit of us all, and know that the majority of folk are good and see this wonderful place just as my husband & I do, we know we are lucky.

We hope that maybe you can use this as a stand point for people to think twice about what they do and maybe to do a little something for others in a small but meaningful way.

Many thanks for your kind attention.
