Bad weather closes some local attractions

The thunderstorm warning that is in place for Thursday August 8th has resulted in the closure of some attractions in Boyle’s Lough Key Forest Park.

Park management have issued a statement saying: “Due to recent alerts for anticipated heavy rainfall, wind and risk of thunderstorms we have taken the decision to close the Lough Key Experience with Tree Canopy Walk and Coffee Cart for Thursday 5th August”.

“Our Lakeside Food Truck will be open from approximately 10am serving tea, coffee, freshly baked treats and other savoury snacks”.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and we hope understand it is in the best interest for the safety of our staff and visitors”.

The Status Yellow thunderstorm warning is in place for all of Ireland since 6am Thursday and will remain in place until 7pm tonight.

Thunderstorm activity will occur with the risk of hail leading to localised flooding and hazardous driving conditions.

Met Eireann forecast for Thursday:

Outbreaks of showery rain and blustery conditions this morning, heaviest across the east and north. Whilst it will brighten up from the southwest during the morning, widespread heavy thundery showers will develop too, with the risk of hail and spot flooding. Highest temperatures of 17 to 19 degrees as fresh to strong southerly winds, veering westerly and moderating for a time, before increasing fresh northwesterly by evening.
