Boyle man to head Roscommon GAA

By tomorrow evening a Boyle man will be the top official in Roscommon GAA circles.

Seamus Sweeney who is originally from Brislagh, Boyle is set to be elected Chairman of Roscommon GAA at the county convention in St. John’s Community Centre, Lecarrow on saturday evening.

Now living in Cloonashaghan, Croghan, Seamus is a well known postman for the Ballinameen and Knockarush area working out of Boyle Delivery Service Unit.

Seamus played all his underage football with Boyle before moving to Croghan in 1984 following his marriage to Geraldine Killoran, sister of former Roscommon player Seamus Killoran.

Seamus and Geraldine have two sons Cathal and Fintan.

His brothers John and Joe both still live in Brislagh and are also well known in the community.

Saturday’s elevation to high office is a great honor for the Shannon Gaels clubman, having served on the county executive as coaching officer and vice chairman over the last few years.

All in Boyle wish Seamus good luck, health and happiness in his new position.
