Boyle musician to perform at Coleman Music Festival

Boyle musician John Carty will perform at the Michael Coleman Music Festival on Sunday 20th August.

John will explore the rich tapestry of Sligo fiddle music by creatively interpreting the repertoire of local fiddle masters: Michael Coleman, Paddy Killoran, James Morrison, Lad O’Beirne, the Cawley’s and Michael Gorman.

John Carty has been a fervent advocate of Sligo music since he first encountered the 78rpm recordings which had been re-released on LP in the 1970s. Since that time his passion has deepened and he is a firm ambassador and researcher of the style. In this show he will lead the audience on a journey through the story and landscape of this rich musical heritage.

He will joined for some of the concert by his son, James, to emulate the double fiddle sound that has long been a feature of Sligo music since the 1920s. Accompaniment will be provided by Brian McGrath on piano, a long-time collaborator with John Carty, who is also a gifted banjo player and fellow enthusiast of the music of this time period and area.

The concert starts at 8pm and tickets priced at  €15 are available from https://www.colemanirishmusic.com/product/john-carty/
