The home side opened the scoring after eight minutes. Some slick passing resulted in Niall O’ Donoghue crossing in the ball, his cross headed home by Mick Corrigan.

Ten minutes later, Celtic got their second. O’ Donoghue once again crossed in, the ball was knocked down to the path of Danny Brown who volleyed into the bottom corner.

The visitors had a chance of their own after half an hour. A lapse in the Boyle defence was seized upon by number nine who should have scored only to see his shot go over.

There were few chances between then and half-time. HT: Boyle Celtic 2 St Johns Athletic 0.

Boyle started the second half brightly. Corrigan, Dylan Edwards and Luka Roddy all had opportunities.

Second half substitute Martin Doherty tested the goalkeeper twice in a matter of minutes as Boyle searched for a third.

Roddy was causing problems in the St Johns defence. On seventy six minutes, he slipped through Dylan Edwards who placed the ball into the back  of the net.

The fourth and final goal was the best of the night. Donie Smith, who defended strongly throughout found Tomas Lavin, who expertly lofted the ball over the away sides defence to Dylan Edwards. Edwards delicately touched the ball down, turned and fired the ball into the back of the net to make it 4-0.

That was the last real action of the match as Boyle deservedly prevailed by four goals to nil.
