Council vote to abolish Irish Water

Roscommon County Council have called for the abolition of Irish Water.

South Roscommon councillor Paddy Kilduff moved the motion at this weeks meeting and all councillors voted in favour with the exception of Fine Gael’s Maura Hopkins and John Naughten who were of the view that charges are now more acceptable to the public.

Cllr Kilduff was of the view that the local authority should maintain the water system.

Independent councillor Laurence Fallon warned that the motion could be seen as “support for the extremists who have engaged in violent acts in their demonstrations”.
