Crime Decreases in Boyle

There has been a marked decrease in reported crime in the Boyle area.

Figures provided by local Garda Inspector Padraig Jones to Monday nights Joint Policing Committee meeting in the town show an overall decrease of 25% in incidents reported to Boyle Garda Siochana.

The main figures are as follows:

  • Burglary and related theft down 35%
  • Shop theft down 60%
  • Criminal damage down 5%
  • Public Order down 33%
  • Very Serious Crime down 100%
  • Dangerous Driving down 33%
  • Theft Related to person- static

The Inspector also stated that in comparison to neighbouring towns, Boyle does not have a major controlled drug problem.

He also said that no complaints had been made to local Gardai concerning Money Lenders operating in the town.

In relation to the recent amalgamation with Castlerea Garda District, Inspector Jones confirmed that the only change was from an administrative perspective with no Superintendant now stationed in the town and that Garda numbers remain as before.
