The funeral of a man shot outside a wedding in Co Fermanagh last week will take place in Athlone today.
Barney McGinley, a member of the travelling community from Longford but who had been living in Athlone, died after being gunned down outside St Mary’s Church in Newtownbutler on Wednesday afternoon.
Gardaí from a number of units are expected remain in Athlone today after maintaining a strong presence during yesterday evening’s removal to St. Mary’s Church.
Mr McGinley will be laid to rest in Coosan following funeral mass later today.
