After some comprehensive defeats, some near-misses and individual wins, finally last Sunday, Boyle Tennis Club scored a Match Victory in the Connacht League. That it was achieved away from home against the reigning Champions Manorhamilton Tennis Club just adds to the sweetness of the win.
First of all our Ladies Doubles team of Fiona and Deirdre came from a set behind to win, as Justin and Paul just lost out in a tiebreak. Then Fiona and Paul won their mixed doubles game well, which was enough to take the overall victory in a countback.
It’s a sign of the effort being put into the Club (special shout-out to Fiona) and the progress we’re making that in a relatively short space of time Boyle have gone from being well behind the curve to holding our own in matches against other more established Clubs. There’s no reason why this progress shouldn’t continue.
Meanwhile, in difficult conditions on a rain-soaked day at the foot of Croagh Patrick our B-Team acquitted themselves well against a very strong Westport Tennis Club side who now march on to the Final with a 100% record.
