N4 upgrade to go to tender in 2018

The €100m planned upgrade of the N4 from Castlebaldwin to Collooney is set to go to tender next year with construction due to commence in 2019.

When completed, the new road will greatly reduce the journey time between Boyle and Sligo.

The proposed road will consist of 14.7k of dual carriageway with construction taking approximately two years to complete.

The news was announced at this week’s Strategic Policy Committee meeting of Sligo County Council.

Last January Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), previously known as the National Roads Authority announced funding for the project of €11.9m of which €9.1m will go towards advancing work on the N4 this year.
