Seven charities to benefit from Tommy Simon Care Fund

The family of the late Tommy Simon has issued a statement in relation to the distribution of the remaining funds in the Care Fund that was set up for Tommy:
“It was with deep sadness that the committee of the Tommy Simon Care fund held a special meeting on Monday 14th April 2025″.
“Tommy Simon from Knockarush, The Plains Boyle, Co. Roscommon sadly passed away peacefully on 21st December 2023 in his home surrounded by his devoted family, Mother Niamh, Sister Lydia, Granny Peg, extended family nurse’s carers and neighbours. Tommy’s Father Frankie (R.I.P) died on 7th October 2022 following a brief illness”.
“Sincere sympathies were extended to the family on their losses”.
“Tommy was born on the 17th July 2006, his prognosis at birth was very bleak and that he was unlikely to survive past 18 months. He had multiple conditions of the brain and heart all under the umbrella of Cerebral Palsy. Consequently, Tommy was unable to walk, talk, eat, or drink and he was blind. He received all food and medication through a tube. Despite Tommys profoundly serious medical conditions, he was cared for and loved beyond words in his home for 17 ½ years”.
“He touched the lives of so many people with his fight for life and beautiful smile. R.I.P Tommy”.
“The care fund was set up in 2009 to help with Tommys full time care and the family now wish the remaining funds to be distributed to the following charities who were directly involved in Tommys Care”.
“The balance of the care fund was €33,379.66. The account was closed on the 25th of April 2025, and the following cheques were issued”.

Bank charges of €3.50 were deducted from the account.
“Niamh, Lydia, Peg and all the family wish to express their sincere appreciation to friends, neighbours, and members of the Tommy Simon Care Fund committee for their unwavering support and fundraising efforts throughout the years”.
“To everyone who contributed and supported The Tommy Simon Care Fund over the years, the family express a heartfelt Thank You”.
“Niamh, Lydia, and Peg would also like to take this opportunity to give a special mention to their long-term friend and neighbour Ann Walshe, for all her hard work and dedication to the Tommy Simon Care Fund. With her kind and selfless nature Ann has been a continuous pillar of support to our family throughout the years. With love and admiration, the family want to thank her sincerely”.
“Without the work of the committee, neighbours, and our community together, The Tommy Simon Care Fund would not have been possible”.
“We hope the money presented to the various charities from the care fund will help other families and children in need as it did with Tommy during his 17 ½ years”.
