Our Wynne’s Bar sponsored men’s first team were at their scintillating best on Saturday night. On what was a perfect night for football, the lads found the back of the net no fewer than six times! Mick Corrigan (hat-trick), Shane Battles, Luke McGrath and own goal were the Celtic goalscorers. The lads now progress to the next round of the RDFL Premier Division Cup. Team: C. Cooke, D. Carlos, D. Callaghan, J. McCrann, G. O’Connor; L. McGrath, E. George, S. Carroll; S. Battles, M. Corrigan, I. Said. Subs used: A. Calpin for Said (68 mins), B. Kilroy for George (77 mins). With D. Commiserations to our Downes Construction sponsored women’s team who were defeated in their cup semi-final on Sunday afternoon. Played in what was sweltering heat at Lecarrow, the team battled from the first whistle to the last. It was the opposition, Castlerea that hit the front with a free-kick. They doubled their lead less than 20 minutes later with a header from a corner. However, it was not game over as Boyle Celtic pressed hard and got their just rewards five minutes from time. A mazy run by Bláthnaid Kilroy resulted in the same player finding the back of the net with a fine strike from just inside the penalty area. Despite late pressure, Celtic couldn’t find that elusive equaliser as Castlerea progressed to the showpiece in a few weeks time. Team: S. Bourke; G. McCawley, S. Takahara, P. Brehony, E. Mullen; E. Callaghan, E. Duggan, A. O’Connor; A. Lyons, S. O’Donohoe A. O’Donohoe. Subs used: B. Kilroy & A. Hogan.
