Met Eireann has issued a Status Orange wind warning for several western coastal counties for Friday September 3rd due to the arrival of Storm Amy and by geographical connection it could be assumed Boyle and North Roscommon is also in the Orange zone.
A status orange weather warning is given before expected weather conditions that could significantly impact people, property and activity in an area.
The warning comes into effect at 14.00 today Friday and runs until 22.00 tonight.
Winds could gust to between 100 Km/hr and 120Km/hr and with trees still in leaf and soil saturated, a number could fall during the storm.
Near gale force to gale force and very gusty southwest to west winds are expected which will produce fallen trees, damage to power lines and possible power outages and very difficult travelling conditions.
Storm Amy will also bring heavy rain and very windy conditions today. Rain will move in from the southwest through the morning, heavy at times and possibly leading to spot flooding. Rain will clear eastwards by the afternoon, followed by scattered showers, heavy at times. Strong to gale force south to southwest winds will veer westerly and increase to storm force at times along coastal areas during the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees.
Ireland West Airport has advised passengers due to travel today to contact their airline for the latest and most up to date flight information. If you’re flight is impacted due to weather the airline will contact you directly.
The airport is expecting to operate as normal, however If travelling to or from the airport, please take extra care on the roads with the recommendation to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before your scheduled flight departure time.
