Boyle artist creates tutorial for young people

A Boyle native has created a tutorial for young people on how to draw your portrait.

Well known artist Sian Costello created the tutorial as part of National Drawing Day which took place on Saturday May 16th.

The tutorial is full of handy hints and tips for those entering the Cruinniu na nOg Children’s Portraiture competition.

You can see the tutorial in the link below:

Sian Costello is an artist from Boyle, but lives and works in Limerick City and is currently enrolled in fourth year Fine Art Painting BA (Hons) at Limerick School of Art and Design. Sian expresses a fascination with established art history and questions the persistence of painting in the digital age. By mining the history of visual art, she invents processes inspired by extinct technologies and re-contextualises obsolete imageries. Her current practise centres on the relationship between the artist, the subject, the ground and the time that binds these forces together. In contrast, she takes inspiration from the immediacy of photography and the live image upon the camera-screen. By contrasting these two experiences, she hopes to combine the fantastic nature of painting with the magic of seeing.

Last January Sian participated in the Sky Portrait Artist of the Year on the Sky Arts Channel.

She has also exhibited many times at Boyle Arts Festival, winning the ‘Most Promising Artist under 25’ at BAF 2016 and winning first prize at the local Open Art Exhibition last July.
