Further weather closures today

Temperatures dropped to -5 degrees celsius overnight in Boyle, making it one of the coldest places in the country last night.

Snow started to fall again in Boyle shortly before 9am with freezing temperatures leading to poor driving conditions on many secondary roads again today.

Many footpaths are also in a treacherous condition.

Met Eireann are forecasting Thursday as cold and increasingly windy with remaining frost, ice and any fog clearing. Outbreaks of rain will occur, turning to sleet and snow at times. Whilst accumulations will mainly occur over high ground, some will occur on lower levels too. Highest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees (north to south) and feeling colder in a fresh to strong easterly wind. Extremely cold this evening and overnight with brisk northeasterlies and further wintry falls, however it will soon become dry. Frost and icy conditions too though with freezing fog, all resulting in treacherous conditions. Lowest temperatures of-2 to -6 degrees Celsius.
