A man appeared before a special sitting of Roscommon Court this (Sunday) evening in connection with an incident in Cloontuskert on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred when a man armed with a knife entered a shop in Cloontuskert and threatened two members of staff.
Gardaí were alerted to the incident but the man managed to leave the scene in a grey car with a small quantity of cash taken from the cash register.
According to a Garda spokesperson, a short-time later this car was observed close to Longford where they arrested the male occupant.
The 42-year-old was initally detained at Longford Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and appeared before a special sitting of Roscommon District Court on Sunday night.
Gardaí say they have recovered an amount of cash and the weapon.
