Final preparations are nearing completion for this evening’s Boyle Athletic Club 5k Road Race with over 300 athletes expected to participate.
Pre and post race activities take place at Abbey Primary School (F52 KT52) where race numbers can be collected and where post race refreshments will be served and where prize giving will take place.
The race starts on Abbey Terrace at 8pm and the finish line will be in the same location as last year’s event.
Once you’ve crossed the finish line and collected your medal, it’s approximately a 1km walk or easy jog back to the start area, where you’ll find parking and our post-race refreshments.
Prize giving will take place at the refreshment area, so we’d encourage everyone to make their way back after the race and stay to celebrate the evening’s performances.
We’ll also be collecting donations for the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, our chosen charity partner for this year’s event. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will help support families caring for children with complex medical needs in communities across Ireland.
Motorists are advised that there will be traffic restrictions around Boyle for the duration of the Race from approximately 19.55 to 20.45 on Friday evening. The race starts at Abbey Terrace down the N61 (Sligo Road) before turning right onto Wooden Bridge Road and doing loops of the Canal. Traffic restrictions will be in place along Abbey Terrace, Shilling Hill, Sligo Road, Wooden Bridge Road and on the approach to Boyle Marina where the finish line is located.
Gardai and event organisers ask all motorists and road users to please comply with Gardaí and Marshalls to ensure the safety of participants in both of the above events.
