Boyle GAA weekly club news

Our U14s had a convincing win over Strokestown in the Garda Cup Semi Final on Saturday morning last in Strokestown. They now await the winners of the other semi final (Castlerea St Kevins or Kilmore/Shannon Gaels, in the final which is expected to be played in Abbey Park on Saturday week 10th December.

The Underage Section of the Club ( responsible for all age groups from nursery to minor) will hold its Annual General Meeting in the Clubroom on this Thursday evening 1st December at 8pm. We earnestly invite all parents and all who are interested in the continued promotion of Gaelic Games for our boys of all ages up to and including minor to attend.

The Underage Committee held a very successful and well attended Presentation Evening for our various underage teams in St Joseph’s Hall on Friday last. The medals were presented by Boyle’s County Senior players Enda and Donie Smith and Sean Purcell and County Minor Committee Chairman Frank Egan, all of them giving appropriate words of encouragement to our young footballers. The MC for the event was the ever capable Tony Conboy. Medals were presented to our Under 8 and Under 10 panels to acknowledge their commitment throughout the year. The U12 panellists were presented with their Division 1 Summer League winners medals, while the U16s were presented with their runners up medals, while the National Automation Limited minors were also presented with medals to acknowledge their efforts. The U14s were presented with awards to acknowledge their Garda Cup (2015) success and Féile participation. Awards were presented to the Feile team management and their partners and to the Féile backroom team. The Underage Committee expresses its deep appreciation of all who sponsored the various aspects of the presentation evening and indeed those who continue to sponsor playing gear and equipment. The gathering was addressed by the Underage Committee Chairman Jim McGrath and Senior Club Chairman Martin Dolan. The Underage Committee made a special presentation to Boyle and Roscommon GAA stalwart Sean Young to acknowledge his lifelong dedication to the coaching of generations of underage Boyle players.

The Senior Club AGM will be held in the Clubroom on Sunday next 4th December at 5pm. Again we encourage everyone who is in any way interested in the continued promotion of Gaelic Football in Boyle to attend. The Club strongly encourages all members to complete and return their nomination forms to Club Secretary Mary Clifford by this Tuesday night. We encourage members to make nominations for the various officerships in the Club.

The annual Christmas Quiz will be held in St Joseph’s Hall on Wednesday night 28th December. This is always the Club’s social event of the year.

The Club wishes to thank all who supported the weekend’s ISPCC churchgate collection which was done by Club members. It yielded €980. Thanks nalso to those who helped in the collection.

Congratulations to Club player David Kelly and his wife Lorraine on the birth of their daughter Anna.

Congratulations also to Kate Gilmartin, Carrick Road who was a member of the winning Team Japan in the Asian Games GAA tournament in Shanghai recently.

Sympathy is extended to the Battles family, The Plains, Boyle on the death of Mrs Joan Battles, to the Keaveney Family, Kingsland on the death of Mrs Keaveney and to County Minor Committee Chairman Frank Egan on the death of his father.
