The National Planning Framework was announced Friday with the following points relevant to this general area:
- Carrick on Shannon By Pass to move to appraisal and planning stages in 2018.
- Upgrade to N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramogue
- The N4 upgrade between Colloney and Castlebaldwin in Co Sligo to progress
- Athlone to be a Regional Hub
- Sligo to get special status
- N4 upgrade between Rooskey and Mullingar to get to go ahead
