Special Olympics collection Friday

Special Olympics annual Collection Day will take place in Roscommon and country wide today Friday 22nd April.

The collection is the charity’s biggest annual fundraising event.

This year there are over 250 collection points, five of which are in Roscommon.

The Special Olympics Collection Day is only made possible by the thousands of volunteers who sign up to collect funds on the day.

One of these volunteers is Roscommon town native, Maire Allen who started her journey with Special Olympics Ireland when her brother Joe Hickey became involved with Special Olympics in 1987.

Marie travelled to World Summer Games in Minneapolis in 1991 as a family member and has since been nominated for Chairperson of Special Olympics Connaught.
