Since our last update, our Roberto’s Takeaway Boyle/ GreenRock Convenience Store Boyle sponsored men’s reserves captured the RDFL Division Two Cup. Facing recently crowned league champions Glen Celtic was always going to be difficult but the lads turned in a superb performance right to the final whistle. Alfonso Barrios was a thorn in the side of the opposition throughout and outmuscled a few Glen Celtic defenders on 40 minutes before giving Boyle the lead. Patrick Whitton set up his side perfectly as they sniffed out any danger at the back while also posing a threat going forward. Glen did have the ball in the net as the game ticked into added time. However, there was relief among the vocal support as the referee adjudged a foul had been committed. As Glen pushed forward to find the elusive equaliser, Alfonso Barrios pounced on a mistake by the goalkeeper for his and Celtic’s second to secure the victory and silverware. Team: S. Conlon; D. Hughes, D. O’Loughlin, J. Connolly, A. O’Connor; L. Casey, C. Calpin, C. Morris; E. George, D. Hensey, A. Barrios. Subs used: D. Cogan for Connolly (62 mins), A. Corrigan for George (80 mins). With: A. Perez Ribera, J. Burke Tighe and A. Rossiter. Manager: P. Whitton.
Our masters team continued their unbeaten start to the season on Friday night. Colm Morris (2) and Mick Corrigan ensured all three points against Glen Celtic. Friday’s draw follows a nil-all draw with Shiven Rovers and three goals to one triumph over Roscommon United.
